I was recently asked to help with a project to create a visual to show the home decor color trends for 2020. Rather than showing the colors in home decor products, the fabrics were made into clothing and displayed on manikins for a fun twist
You may be wondering why a soft furnishings designer and fabricator would take on a project sewing garments. Well, first, I’m always up for a challenge. Second, I spent many years making clothing for myself, my family, and others before starting Designs by Donna. And third, the goal was to let the fabrics themselves tell color the story.
How did I approach this project? After seeing the proposed fabric swatches, I put my pencil to paper and sketched out the designs. Once the designs were approved and the fabrics arrived in the workroom, the fabrication process began. In just a few short weeks, everything was complete and shipped to its destination.
So what are some of the home decor color trends for 2020? Let me show you.
Browns are gaining ground. Think of bitter chocolate, camel, and cafe late.
Yellow family uptrends. Think of turmeric, curry, mustard, and goldenrod.
Green with envy continues to gain traction from pale spring leaf, willow moss, to forest and hunter.
Rose and nude. Soft feminine and ever so beautiful.
Beige is back due to its ability to create serenity sprinkled with warm harmonies like cinnamon.
Brights pop against deep contrasts.
All tones of blue from pastel to deep navy. Pantone’s Color of the year is Classic Blue. Have you ever wondered how Pantone chooses the color of the year? You can learn more here
Grey continues to warm. It’s more of a current standard.
The completed project all pulled together.
2020 Home Decor Color Trends
This project was a blast from the past for me. I hadn’t made clothing in many years but I enjoyed the challenge. The best part, other than being able to see the completed project in person was this note from the client.
Receiving this testimonial from the client was the most rewarding part of the project.
