I grew up watching my mother sew. As an adult, I asked my mother if she taught me to sew. She told me I just picked up the craft by watching her. I sewed doll clothes and then clothes for myself. I made doll furniture out of cardboard and covered this with fabric. I never remember not sewing and have always had a love for fabric.

After I was married, not only did I make all of my clothes, I made suits for my husband as well. We had two sons and I made their clothes.  Everything from bathing suits to blue jeans. Sewing has always been my creative outlet.

I want to tell you how beautiful Elisa’s daughters window treatment is. I was in her room the other day and they are really great! You do terrific work! D. Hebert

In 1986 I left my corporate job to stay at home with our young sons. As they entered preschool and I had a little time alone,  I began making curtains and window treatments for our home. The neighbors saw these and began asking for custom curtains.  Using a bedroom in our home as a workroom, I started offering custom window treatments to the public. This was the start of Designs by Donna.

The business soon outgrew my small workroom. We bought a house and moved Designs by Donna out of our home. My business continues to evolve but my passion for sewing and working with fabric remains strong.

I also have a passion to help others learn the craft of sewing and design. I now offer  private training on workroom fabrication techniques in my workroom or yours. I also present group seminars on many workroom, design, and business topics for the home décor industry.
